The White Tower was built in the 15th century, after the conquest of Thessaloniki by the Ottomans in 1430. The Tower was the eastern end of the sea wall. There was another one at the western end and a third one in between. In 1883, by order of Sultan Abdul Hamit II, the Tower was whitewashed and given the name Lefkos (Beyaz Koule).
